O'Franken and the Majority

Did you hear did you hear?!? Air America is here (and/or coming), my peoples! At last and finally, liberal talk radio.

My excitement over this is limited only by the fact that there is not currently a Seattle affiliate. But someday... The Savages and Limbaughs and Hannitys of this world will have true competition, and I will get hear it! Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo, Chuck D. Ah, darlings, please come to Seattle.

Here is what one conservative had to say on the matter:

"We like our audience," says conservative talk show host Blanquita Cullum, president of the National Association of Radio Talk Show Hosts. "We know who they are. We don't think they're stupid. We try to relate to them and communicate with them."

Liberals conversely think the "masses are pretty stupid," Cullum says and she thinks that liberals are calculating that "by doing something like this they'll be able to move them and work them and kind of maneuver their point of view and get them to the voting booth. They have not been very successful at understanding who the average American citizen is."

Now, if that doesn't sound like fear, I don't know what does.

But if I may hazard an opinion here, Chaquita Blanquita, it might sound something like this:

No, you big fat lying liar. Conservative talk radio DOES NOT like their audience. They like to hear themselves talk, and they like people to call in to tell them how smart and how clever and how genius they are. Have you never heard Dan Savage humiliate and denigrate callers with dissenting positions? Have you never heard Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly (perhaps not radio figures, but still quite public talking heads) call liberals stupid, or tell them to shut up, or at best claim that liberals have brainwashed the masses? That is not "liking the audience". Sorry.

And if what you think about liberal talk radio network moving them and working [the public] and kind of maneuvering their point of view and get them to the voting booth is a bad thing or that bringing an opposing point of view into focus means nothing more than political spinning to the dumbed down public, you and your kind are apparently the ones who hate America. Because baby, balance and debate are (supposedly and in theory)what America is all about. If you can't take the competition, get off the airwaves.
