Like sands in the hourglass

When it rains, it pours my friends. You would do well to remember that. Just when you think you're all cozy and set, prospects appear to shake your resolve. It never happens the other way around - when you need or desperately desire for them to fall into your proverbial lap. Oh no - it happens when you get a job driving golf carts across the street for $9.00 an hour.

Big Immunocytochemistry Lab finally responded to my resume. Located conveniently in the heart of traffic hell, that being the opposite end of the metropolitan area, BIL has offered me an interview in my old area of expertise. Full with benefits and the promise of immediate status as a permanent full-time *gasp* employee of a nationally recognized leader in clinical research and diagnostic consultation laboratory.

The thought of once again plugging a headset over mine ears to type such wonderous phrases as The differential diagnosis of epithelioid tumors with focal cytokeratin expression includes melanoma, some poorly differentiated carcinomas, and some sarcomas, notably angiosarcoma (especially epithelioid variants), synovial sarcoma, epithelioid sarcoma, and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). looms impressively before me like a giant golden carrot. Oh yes, I may once again hold tumors and cancer cells set in paraffin and glass in my hands.

Now I just have to risk losing golf cart driver extraordinaire status right before the holiday season by taking a day or two off in order to interview. Is there a comparison? Not likely - other than my distaste for tempting the fate of a sure thing for the possibility of landing something better.

And these are the days of my life, people. Oh, the choices one must make when one wishes to make something greater out of a vast nothing state.
