soapboxdiner Reading is cool Hey, thanks to everyone who sent me get well soon vibes this weekend. I can't say that I'm 100% yet, but definitely on the up side of it (unless you count my nose, which is currently making that squeaky sound noses make when they are full of boogies that just won't blow. Then you sneeze and get a delicate shielding hand full of them. Eewww.) So, have I told you all that Steven is really getting a hang of all this reading business? It is just the coolest thing to watch, I mean that. If you don't have your own 5-6-year-old, seriously. Go out and get one! Only then will you share in the joy of the sing songed repetition of "Poppy pats Pippin the pet (pronounced Pete for added fun!) pony." Go on - sing it. It's more fun than a picking a peck of pickled peppers. And just in case you were wondering what my sentiments are regarding that whole "GH" thing happening in the English language, IT'S EVIL. How many sounds does this infamous pair get to make before we decide their schizophrenic? Three sounds are too many people! But you know what's a cool consonants sandwich? "TCH" Just roll it around your tongue (tongwah? tonkay? tongoo?) a couple times. It's almost tactile. The kid giggled like the dentist just put the gas mask on him when I showed him he'd pronounced "catch" and "ditch" using the same ending sound. Then he said, "But Mom, I can't say that last word (ditch). That's not a nice name." We're still working on him. But dang if that isn't clever. 6:06 am - 12.09.02
