This Bud's for Me

11.09.07

Eff, what a day, what a day. MMIT can't handle the job, so he's all bent out of shape. Ask him what you can do to help - nothing. He has it ALL under control. Bookkeeper is helping with the error report, but bookkeeper doesn't have time to help, so she comes in to vent and ask for help. Ask MMIT if I can help him with it, he says no. So I go to the Director - my direct report supervisor, she says help. Everyone's flipped out because volumes have gone up. MMIT is doing two jobs and backing two more, so he's all stressed and comes in to take it out on me. Fuck. CHILL OUT. Let me help you. No, no. These are my responsibilities, I just have to find a way.

In the meantime, Director informs me that one customer has had stuff returned eight days passed deadline and isn't happy, and this can't happen. Plus, Director just got a promotion, so she has added responsibilities that she has to learn and everyone is just fucked. soeveryoneisfuckedandnoonewantshelpandsowetakeitoutoneveryoneelseandeveryonehateseveryoneandlifesucks.

Bleh!

Meanwhile, I'm sitting on the cake position with just training and reviews, and the CEO IMs me today to ask me about what an average production day is like for me and I have to tell her, "Well, I get 7-8 reports done a day." Which sounds really fucking paltry when everyone else is fucked, and I'm sitting back on easy street doing practically nothing.

FUCK.

Oh, and did I mention the recent restructuring and the looming automation that will revamp every position in the place, and free up oodles of time for everyone, but no one will loose their jobs?

Right - that.

But I do 7-8 reports a day, so you need me, right?

Yeah.

Insinuated to Director today that perhaps she could delegate some of her lower-priority duties to me and that way she would be freer to do her upper management things. I don't know. She's already begun thinking about giving me new-hire orientations and initial training. She still does interviews and all the decision-making. And we discussed again today instituting a continuing education program for the established staff, so she OK'ed me to begin developing that, which rocks - but it seems like more busy work than anything. Needed? Yeah, definitely would be useful. Helpful? Well, moral is already pissy in production as it is, so they'll probably all be whiny about having a new requirement too. Don't worry that it will review the topics they consistent and unfailingly ask for assistance on every day - a fact that is not taken into account in our daily productivity requirements.

Gah. The mind boggles. Beer.
