Ain't no rain

So here's the thing - see, I train and QC new employees. So for everything I write or recommend to the newbies, I have to cc the Boss. The Boss is cool as all get out though, so she's a blast to work with. And that sentence right there is amazing to get to type. You see, I get to work WITH her, rather than FOR her. I love that.

So after putting in about 55 hours last week, and ccing her like crazy, she responded to my emails with wonderful things to hear, like she appreciates how I talk with the trainees and that she likes my style. It just so awesome to have that positive feedback.

Boss came into my office today (my office!) and said, 'Hey, I know you do a lot of work from home, so if you want it, we can give you a laptop.' That is so cool, I could have a company laptop. I didn't take it though. One, I really hate laptops. I hate the laptop mouse, I hate the lag time, everything. Plus, my computer here at home is newer, bigger, badder and better. So I'll just keep using mine. I told her maybe at some point in the future I would take her up on the offer, but since I have all the software and preference settings already set up here at the house, it wasn't necessary. Still, totally cool.

Know what else is totally cool? I got to release my first trainee off of QC today. The feeling of success is such a rush, to know that I had a hand in bringing someone up to awesomeness at work. I love that!

I had to go home early today, though. Apparently two of the neighborhood kids slashed Steven's bike tires while he was at the library today. Purposefully went out of their way to ride their own bikes all the way to the library for the sole purpose of beating him up and slashing his tires with a switchblade. Little fuckers.

Luckily, one of the neighborhood moms just happened to be there and called the police. Do you realize that this is the THIRD TIME in less than one year we have been involved with the police? Jesus. Up until moving to this neighborhood, I have never been involved with the law. Apparently one of the thugs has already earned himself a reputation with our great city's finest. Juvenile Detention has been mentioned.

Thankfully, his mother was cool and has agreed to pay for the replacement tires. Unfortunately, that's not really the point, is it? This is about just being cool with each other. We do not need to go out of our way to harass people. If we can't get along, then just leave it alone. Jesus. I made the boys shake hands. Thug #1 didn't want to, but his mom stepped in and said, 'Boy, don't you EVER turn down an opportunity to make a friend. You better shake that hand right now.' As white trashy as they appeared with their broke down cars and three naked babies crawling out onto their cement stoop unattended, I loved that bit of white-collar moral wisdom. I was really glad to see some semblence of parenting going on there.

But anyways, I'm off. I have hours of work to do, and I am rumbly in my tumbly. I suppose I should cook a meal and stop procrastinating with the workage, too.
