Change is for the DoDos, Fool |

Funny thing about growing company - they and the people who work for them have this thing called growing pains. Like us, the company I feel quite privileged to work for now. We have grown, in fact we have more than tripled our staff in the last three years. And once upon a time, before my time, we used to have weekly social gatherings and quarterly parties. There was a company news letter and fun little things to make everyone feel all warm and gooshy on the inside. In the company policy guide, there is a commandment Thou shall have candy available at whim. Like manna - there whenever it was needed to ebb off hunger/boredom/fatigue/stress.
And then a funny thing happens. Everyone LOVES it so much, they tell all their friends. And so we grow and grow and grow and grow, and soon there is no time amid all the work to do all those fun things. And then, just like all those pesky fleeing Hebrews, they cry out their anger, their disbelief, at the Hand of the One who Provides. And then they start quitting. Well, the Hebrews didn't necessarily quit, but come on - if they could have, they would have.
And so it is with us - the Company. We have grumblers and mumblers. There are trouble makers and instigators. And then there are us; the few, brave people who are left to maintainthe bidness. And so, when the EVP/GM of the Company sent out a straight-to-the-point, ever-so-sorry-we're-growing, doesn't-mean-we-don't-love-you email to the Company, I was curious to how the Company felt about it. And so, in conversation with one of our troopers, I queried, "So, what'd ya think of the email?"
"Well, I've been hearing the gossip for awhile. I know of quite a few folks who aren't too happy right now. But the Company is growing. We all just need to adapt."
"Yeah. Some people have a hard time with change. That's very true."
"Uh-huh," he said, "That's why God created extinction."
And really, who can argue with that?
